Sonos One(Gen 2) is a powerful smart speaker with built-in voice control. Get rich, room-filling sound and control it with voice, the Sonos app, Apple Airplay2, and more. Amazon Alexa is built right in so you can play music, check the news, set alarms, get your questions answered, and more, completely hands free.

Sonos One: Price

Prince should be between $199 and $200, here you can check the current price of a couple of devices.

Sonos One: Design

This speaker has a decent build quality, with plastic on the top and bottom and a metal grille covering most of the front-facing sides, making it feel sturdy. It’s advertised to withstand high-humidity environments like a bathroom with a running shower, but it lacks an IP rating for dust and water resistance, and we don’t currently test a speaker’s water resistance capabilities.

Features and performance

Controls – The controls on the top of the speaker are excellent. You can swipe left or right to return to the previous song or skip to the next one. You can also press and hold the play/pause button to add music from another room or to group speakers together. There’s also a ‘Join’ button that can reset the speaker or connect it to a Sonos system.

Sound– The One may go rather loud for its size, but don’t expect a lot of low-end punch from such a little package.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing Sonos over its competitors is that you won’t have to choose between one of the many competing voice assistants on the market – Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you spend £189.99 on an Amazon Echo Studio, you’re unlikely to buy a Google Home Hub as a smart bedside clock because it won’t be able to sync with your Amazon Echo Studio.

Should you buy Sonos One (Gen 2)?

For music, the Sonos One is adequate; it has a somewhat boomy sound profile, but it fails to reproduce a thumpy low-bass; it also needs to downmix stereo content into mono, which doesn’t sound particularly immersive; and there are compression problems at maximum volume.

Pro

-Through the accompanying app, you may adjust the bass and treble levels.

-A good degree of directivity.

Cons

-Has trouble getting loud and exhibits compression artifacts at maximum volume.

-Stereo material was downmixed into mono.
